We started putting our storyboard into premier pro and I learned quite a lot about the editing software! I’m only used to Lightworks as my only editing software so this lesson was really nice.

We were assigned with making a 30 second animatic! so we started with a storyboard. We were given prompts like “Two friends are at a cafe but then the bill comes” but I decided to go with my own prompt that included Gale from before.
I wanted to finally add a main character to the fish world, so I introduced ‘Gale’ He’s just a regular dog that lives with the fishes.
I made a presentation that says all you need to know about Gale.
I wanted to make a character that wasn’t human as that’s what I usually go for, so I went for the next best thing! Fish.
I began with thinking of a world first, starting with an environment first would make it easier to make a character later.
I was thinking ‘Krusty Krab’ from ‘SpongeBob’ but instead make a bar/pub for the fishes and call it ‘Anchors Way’.
I sketched a small bar that I would later use in a future project and I sketched a drink I think these fishes would drink. I made the bar be a shipwreck in which the fishes would’ve renovated on the inside to be a bar.
After making the bar, I started on the actual characters! I started with this character called ‘Marlin’ and another fish that would work in the bar as a server or janitor.
Then we had to start thinking about how these characters would move, so I picked Marlin for a start.
Marlin is fast, agile and slippery but that didn’t quite fit his face as he looks a little stupid and slow so i tried fixing him up.
I liked how he looked more energetic here! But he looks too evil so i tried again.
He’s definitely more expressive here and I was starting to like him a little more.
After working so much on Marlin, I decided to go back and add a little more to the world. The fishes have their own society just like humans! They have jobs and they have school and after a long 9-5 some of the fishes like to come to Anchors Way for a Kelp Ale.
I then made another character from this little illustration.
Moving from all of this we had to make a collage out of anything! so I chose paper scraps and folded them into shapes and layered them to make a shrimp!
